Silver reacts with sulphur in the air, with sweat and with cosmetics. That is why a piece worn every day dulls faster than one kept in a box.
Three things to do
Take jewellery off before showering, swimming or applying perfume. Dry it with a soft cloth after wearing. Store it in a sealed bag, and keep pieces from rubbing against each other.
Once it has tarnished
Use a proper polishing cloth, rubbing in one direction. Avoid toothpaste and baking soda — both scratch a matte finish.
